When Disaster Strikes: Protecting Records Before, During & After a Disaster

Topic: A disaster can happen when we least expect it, from water and fire to mold, pests, and other forms of contamination. This session with Washington State Archives Senior Records Consultant Sean Reichard will explore practical strategies for protecting records before disaster strikes and managing them when it does. Topics will include disaster preparedness, storage boxes and file cabinets, policies and practices that support recovery, and what to do when records have been contaminated or damaged. Sean will also share real-world lessons and “horror stories” from records management and disaster response.
